A bunion often appears as a “bump”, but it’s a bone deformity and misalignment of the MTP joint (where the long foot bone and toe bone meet). The “bump” is a structural change in the foot’s framework. This change in structure causes the big toe to angle towards the smaller toes, and is often accompanied by an inflamed bursa (fluid-filled sac).
Bunions are typically the result of multiple factors, including but not limited to inherited foot structure/predisposition, narrow or unsupportive footwear, repetitive foot stress, and inflammatory conditions, such as Rheumatoid Arthritis.
Are you experiencing persistent pain at the base of your big toe? Is it worse when you wear shoes? If so, it may be a bunion.
At Lone Star Orthopaedic, our treatments focus on relieving pain, regaining strength and mobility, and restoring you to an active lifestyle.
If pain persists or limits your quality of life, surgical treatment may be recommended.
Most of our patients who follow their personalized treatment plan experience reduced pain, improved mobility, and greater confidence as they return to the activities they enjoy with those they love.
